The Portland Trail Blazers updated their logo last summer, but it was a touch-up versus an overhaul that some teams have undergone. Portland’s pinwheel logo is easily recognizable, but it has established both supporters and detractors over the years. Drew Magary of Deadspin offered his opinion on the logo in a mailbag column:
You know that really IS a stupid logo. That team has arguably the coolest nickname in sports and yet their logo looks like something they cribbed from 1970s board game manufacturer. There are no trails. Nothing is blazing. WHO ARE THE AD WIZARDS WHO CAME UP WITH THIS ONE?!
Magary also questions the reasoning behind the logo. However, one of Magary’s co-workers offered a defense:
I showed this take to boss Megan Greenwell, our only resident Blazers fan. Here was her reply:
“The Blazers have the best logo in sport. Fight me, Clay. Enter the octagon.”
