Declare Portland Trail Blazers Independence and Set Off Fireworks

Changing one or two things about a franchise mired in mediocrity.

For our readers in the United States, the Fourth of July marks the annual celebration of American independence, a day punctuated by picnics, music, and fireworks. Translating food and music is a little hard on a site dedicated to the Portland Trail Blazers, but independence and fireworks might hit the spot for a franchise going nowhere in free agency this summer. Let’s create some.

Here are your holiday questions. Respond in the comments below.

  1. If you could declare the Trail Blazers independent from one thing, what would you walk away from right now.
  2. If you could go back to any moment during the last six years, from yesterday all the way back to the Summer of 2012, and make one explosive move to alter the course of this franchise, what move would you make.

Note that both questions are meant to be answered realistically and specifically. Going back to execute a trade for LeBron James that never existed is outside the spirit of the exercise. So is giving a laundry list of options. You can rid the Blazers of one thing right now and go back to make a retroactive firework move as well. What will you do?

Enjoy the holiday, be safe, and have fun with the responses and your day!
