Everyone knows about Damian Lillard, the three time All Star, and first team All-NBA point guard, but the man brings more to the city of Portland than just on court accolades. The Blazer star guard also makes a huge impression on the community itself. One of the ways he reaches out, is through the Damian Lillard Basketball Camp at the YMCA of Columbia Willamette. Blazer analyst Lamar Hurd caught up with Dame during his camp, which ended on July 20th, to dig a little deeper into his community involvement.
Lillard and Hurd start the conversation discussing Lillard’s basketball camp. Lillard stressed the importance of making a direct impact on the kids in camp.
It’s a full day for me. If it’s going to be my camp and I’m going to have my name on it then I want it to be done the right way. I don't want it to just be a pop up here and there I want to have my impact on it.
It’s not just the impact on the court that Dame and the other coaches are stressing:
We teach them a lot of things, you know, outside of being a great basketball player, and I think that’s the strongest message that we can give em
Hurd and Lillard jumped into Lillard’s random shoe giveaway, his RESPECT campaign, and much more.
Just another reminder to all of us how lucky Portland is to have this man in a Blazers uniform.
