Schedule and Draft Reform

This is the most complicated of issues as players complain about too many games during the season and travel miles. Teams tanking to have better odds in the lottery (76ers).

Reduce the regular season to 66 games and increase the number of teams for the playoffs to 24.

The top 4 in each conference are seeded as they finished in the conference and have a 1st Rd bye.

The balance of the teams are matched up in accordance with the overall record whether it is the east or west conference.

The top 6 picks are the lottery and the balance of the draft is in order of regular season record. The 'Draft Lottery is more of a ho-hum event.

Overall the quality is good for the NBA but the product could be better and produce a better playoffs. This gives almost every team a fighting chance to peak during the playoffs. I think this would boost TV ratings and revenue with a higher quality product which will distribute better to an international audience.

The NBA would reduce their number of games by 20% (16 games) is around 1B in gate revenue. The schedule calendar would remain the same allowing more time for players to recover game to game. This would eliminate back to back game scenario's and more game preparation. An extra round in the playoffs will increase revenue and offset the lost gate revenue from a shortened season. The playoffs are more exciting and almost every fan has a chance.

Its a win - win! The Players don't get worn down in the long season. More fans can engage into the playoffs versus becoming uninterested in January. The All star break could be during MLK B-day the second week in January (15). Trade Deadline moves to March 1. Playoffs start in mid - April through June. Draft July 1, free agency July 7

The cap would go down initially but could give an amnesty provision as they have done in the past agreements. Reduce the salary cap tax penalties for teams to pay for the first 3 years. The BRI will bounce back in a couple of years but the veterans will have longer careers. In the end, the NBA will be a much better game...
