Maurice Lucas was one of the foundations upon with the Portland Trail Blazers’ only championship was built. Sadly, the All-Star forward died in 2010 from bladder cancer, but as Reed Andrews of KATU in Portland reports, the Maurice Lucas Foundation continues to share the values of work, respect, academics, and leadership on and off the court.
Andrews’ piece centers around Lucas’ son David, but also includes quotes from championship teammate Bob Gross.
“Maurice was probably out there in front of everybody in that type of work,” said Bob Gross, Lucas’ teammate on the 1977 team. “Maurice was a leader in that term.”
The piece is worth a read if you’re a Lucas fan or are interested in helping local children.
