CJ McCollum trades with Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons

It's summer time for most of the NBA. The lottery and combine have happened, and rumors and speculation of what moves team will make are starting to heat up. This week on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons had Zach Lowe on to discuss hypothetical trades, and they took a few minutes to discuss options for the Blazers. Starting at the 51:26 mark, their conversation shifts to the CJ McCollum's future with the Blazers, and it's well worth a few minutes of your time for a listen. Here are a few highlights:

Simmons: Actually, let's bring up Portland. Is CJ McCollum on the Blazers next year?

Lowe: I'm going to say no.

Simmons: I'm going to say no as well.

Lowe: Again, you're forcing me to at metaphorical gunpoint to make these calls... I'm going to say no. I've said before there's going to be crazy stuff that happens in the offseason, because teams are taxed out and just kind of like unhappy about life, and Portland fits that to a tee. So I'll say no."

They continue on to share trade options they'd like to happen. Simmons is partial to seeing McCollum shipped to Philadelphia, possibly in a 3-team deal:

Simmons: You could argue that they just take Fultz back, but you know the trade fits Saric and Fultz, or Fultz and the 10th pick. I don't think Fultz for McCollum straight up is a fair trade.

Lowe: No, no! But that number 10 pick is a really interesting little trade asset.

Simmons also likes the idea of a CJ to the Pacers for a deal surrounding Myles Turner. Simmons also throws out Denver as a potential option, but Lowe doesn't see either of these teams as a good fit.

Lowe then brings up a possible Detroit trade has apparently been bouncing around:

Lowe: I'll tell you the McCollum deal that I floated once, and is a favorite among league insiders, is McCollum for Drummond. Sort of two teams just exchanging big money contracts and trying to reset themselves. I just think...

Simmons: I wouldn't do that!

Lowe: ...Portland thinks McCollum is way better than Drummond...

Simmons: He is!

Lowe: ...And I don't think they are wrong. And they think Collins is going to be a really good stretch 5, so I just don't see it.

It's interesting to hear from an outsiders perspective on what they think the value of CJ McCollum is, and both Simmons and Lowe seem to think he has some pretty high trade value. Neither of them would trade CJ for last year's number 1 pick straight up, nor would they swap him for Drummond, a 2018 all-star.

Now the discussion turns to you. Take a few minutes to listen to the conversation. Do any of these trades stand out to you? Would you tweak them in any way to make the deal happen? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
