Trail Blazers Assistant Coach David Vanterpool has been granted permission to interview with the Charlotte Hornets, who parted ways with Steve Clifford last month. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted out the information on Tuesday morning:
Charlotte has received permission to interview Portland assistant David Vanterpool for franchise's coaching job, league sources tell ESPN. Vanterpool will meet with Charlotte today.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) May 1, 2018
Vanterpool has been credited with helping improve Portland’s defense during the 2017-18 season. The Blazers rose from 21st to 8th in the league in defensive efficiency over the course of the season. Vanterpool has recently been linked to the vacant Orlando Magic coaching position as well.
