Editor’s note: Davis told Quick that he hoped to return Saturday against the Spurs or Monday against the Denver Nuggets, not Thursday against the Rockets as originally written below.

Blazers big man Ed Davis could be back from his sprained right ankle sooner than the initial one to two week estimate given by the team.

Davis told NBC Sports Northwest’s Jason Quick that he expects to return later this week, either Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs or Monday against the Denver Nuggets.

In the piece, Quick gave a status update on Davis:

“Davis before Sunday’s game against Memphis was no longer wearing the boot and was walking without a limp. There was swelling on the outside of the ankle, but Davis said he was confident his return would be closer to the seven days than the 14 days.

If he returns against San Antonio, it would be seven days after the team announced the timeline.”

Davis rolled his ankle in the third quarter of Portland’s win over the Clippers on Friday night. Meyers Leonard and Celeb Swanigan have both seen action in Davis’ absence.
