Ime Udoka to interview for head coaching position with Hornets

Udoka could get his first shot at a head coaching job, filling the vacancy left by Steve Clifford.

Former Trail Blazer Ime Udoka will interview for the vacant Charlotte Hornets head coaching job, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Udoka was well-liked among Portland fans during his one season with the team in 2006-07. He retired from playing in 2011 and has spent the last six years as a member of Gregg Popovich’s staff in San Antonio.

Udoka will be the second Spurs assistant interview for the position, following Ettore Messina, who was granted permission to speak with the Hornets earlier last week. Former Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale is also being considered, though he has already interviewed in New York and Phoenix.

If hired, this will be Udoka’s first head coaching job.
