Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside is upset with his team and the way he’s being used, and tonight he let go of those feelings in front of reporters covering a game between the Heat and the Brooklyn Nets. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has the story. [NSFW language ahead]
BREAKING: Whiteside says it's "bull shit" that Heat doesn't use him late when other teams go small. Unsure of future here. Whoa.
— Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) April 1, 2018
From Jackson’s piece in the Herald:
Asked if he tried to discuss it with one of the coaches during the game, Whiteside said: “I don’t know if it’s because I’m on a minutes restriction. The minutes have been like that all year. It’s really frustrating. It’s been frustrating. It’s tough. I don’t know, man. It’s crazy. I don’t understand it.”
Asked if this has made him question his future with the Heat, Whiteside said: “I don’t know. Maybe.”
Whiteside - who had 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks Saturday - then was asked who he should take that up with - management, the coaching staff or his agent.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t know.”
According to Jackson, the interview stopped when a Heat public relations official intervened.
The 28-year-old center averages 14.1 points. 11.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks this year for the Heat, making $23.8 million on a contract that tops out with a player option of $27.1 million in 2019-20. He was linked with the Portland Trail Blazers in free agency recruitment during the Summer of 2016.
