A Friday morning report by Pat Forde and Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, detailing the FBI’s investigation of college basketball, listed Portland Trail Blazers guard Wade Baldwin among players to meet with former ASM Sports associate Christian Dawkins. Dawkins worked in conjunction with now defunct agent Andy Miller in an underground recruiting operation. Read more on that here.
On behalf of Baldwin, the Trail Blazers issued the following statement:
“My family and I met with many different perspective companies to determine who I was going to choose to represent me in my NBA career. I never had a meal paid for by anyone nor did I ever take anything of value. While I did meet with Christian Dawkins, just like I met with many other companies, I never had a meal with him.”
Dawkins’ expense reports indicate several such meetings with current and former NCAA basketball players. Baldwin was not listed among players to receive substantial loans from ASM, though that list includes 2017 No. 1 draft pick Markelle Fultz, rookie sensations Dennis Smith Jr. and Bam Adebayo, as well as former Trail Blazer Tim Quarterman, and more.
