The Ringer Lists McCollum-Durant Podcast Beef as a Top 2018 Sports Moment

The two stars engaged in a mini-beef this summer that dominated NBA airwaves for a day.

Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum and Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant had a very public beef over a podcast this summer. Durant played down Portland’s championship chances, McCollum called out Durant’s move to the Warriors, and then Durant had a (shockingly) likable response.

The Ringer has listed its 45 favorite sports moments of 2018, and the beef made the list. As Molly McHugh writes:

Kevin Durant was a guest on C.J. McCollum’s podcast this summer and lightly roasted the Trail Blazers guard by telling him that his team wouldn’t be in the NBA Finals this season. Rude, but likely correct. Perhaps rankled, McCollum tweeted that Durant’s decision to sign with the Warriors in 2016 was “like getting jumped with ur [sic] brothers by a gang you should’ve beat then joining the gang that jumped u [sic] and ur [sic] brothers 2 months later and forgetting about your bros.” Less rude, and definitely correct.

The tweet likely would’ve gone unnoticed, but Durant—a man who makes burner accounts so he can defend himself to internet strangers—responded, gifting the world a new level (genre, even?) of sports pettiness: “I just did your fuckin podcast.”

You can read what other sports moments made the list here.
