Former Portland Trail Blazer Joel Freeland has apparently retired - and according to Erik Gunderson - it was Damian Lillard that broke the news:
Damian Lillard has expanded his newsbreaking prowess beyond simply reporting which writers are joining The Athletic. His latest scoop: Blazers legend Joel Freeland has retired.
— E. García Gundersen (@Erik_Gundersen) November 5, 2018
Freeland was selected with the 30th overall pick by the Blazers in 2006, and appeared in 151 games with Portland from 2012-15. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in his NBA career, all with the Blazers.
Freeland left the NBA to sign a lucrative two-year contract with Euroleague contender CSKA Moscow. In 2017, Chris Haynes reported that Freeland was eyeing a return to the NBA:
Sources: After two years in Euroleague, former Portland big-man Joel Freeland has engaged in talks with teams to pursue an NBA comeback.

Freeland also represented the Great Britain national basketball team in the 2012 Olympics.
