Trail Blazers rookie guard Anfernee Simons is back home in Florida for Thursday’s game against the Magic. On Wednesday morning, Simons became the first former Edgewater High School student athlete to get his jersey retired.
Blazers courtside reporter Brooke Olzendam attended the festivities in Orlando.
Congrats to @AnferneeSimons for being the FIRST student athlete to get his number retired from Edgewater High School. The principal said it was an easy decision. Was an amazing student and even better person. More on the @trailblazers broadcast tomorrow! #RipCity pic.twitter.com/vc69bk2awT

Simons attended Edgewater for three of his four high school years (he spent his junior year at Montverde Academy). Prior to being selected No. 24 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Simons competed in IMG Academy’s post-grad basketball program.
The Blazers will play their first game of a four-game road trip against the Magic on Thursday.
