If you missed tonight’s game, I couldn’t really say you missed it. The Blazers technically rocked Moda Center, putting away the Suns in the first quarter, and spending three quarters gently pushing away every mini-run Phoenix meekly attempted to mount. But the Blazers didn’t exactly look like a well-oiled machine either, not that it mattered. For the home fans, they mostly just enjoyed seeing the young guys, since Lillard (rest), McCollum (rest), Turner (shoulder), Harkless (ankle), and Trent, Jr sat out the game.
Here are a few basics from the game with few real takeaways:
- Jake Layman: Moda Preseason Legend. Jake dominated the first quarter, and personally stopped every run. In 29 minutes, he shot 10-14 (including 5-7 from three) for 28 points.
- Nurkic’s 3-point percentage falls to earth. Well, it was fun for a few games. Tonight, Phoenix could leave Jusuf alone at the perimeter with little concern. He completely missed the rim on one attempt.
- The Suns are going to stink out loud this season. After years of questionable picks, and finally getting a high-profile top pick, the Suns dumped their GM just before the season. And the team looks as messy as the front office.
Just one game left in preseason, a Friday night home tilt against the Sacramento Kings. Then the season starts the following Thursday.
