Terry Stotts Downplays Meeting Between Damian Lillard and Paul Allen

Coach Stotts answered questions on Rip City Mornings with Dan & Nigel

Head Coach Terry Stotts joined Rip City Mornings with Dan & Nigel via telephone and answered questions about All-Star selections, the loss in Denver, video replay, and more. The most interesting part for Blazers fans, though, had to do with his perspective on the Damian Lillard meeting with team owner Paul Allen.

[The meeting was] being characterized as this big secret meeting. It wasn’t that. It was just Damian reaching out, and kind of curious of what we had going forward. So again it’s—a lot was made of not a lot to be honest.

The question that is left unanswered is how this meeting got public and why. Was it Lillard’s camp, perhaps putting pressure on President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey to improve the roster? Was it Paul Allen’s camp, possibly to reassure people that Lillard is committed to Portland? We can only speculate at the moment.

Olshey has not publicly commented on the meeting and has been nearly invisible since being caught on film making an obscene gesture at a Blazer game in October.
