When Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard was named to the 2018 NBA All-Star Team, many observers offered congratulations, deeming the nomination fit and retroactive justice for a pair of 25 ppg seasons in which Lillard did not make the cut. Oklahoma City Thunder guard and NBA MVP Russell Westbrook was not among that cheering throng. Incensed by the omission of teammate Paul George, Westbrook criticized the All-Star selection process, appearing to take a swipe at Lillard in the process.

Royce Young of ESPN posted the video of Westbrook’s interview on Twitter.

Here’s the germane quote from Westbrook’s response to the question about George:

Unbelievable. I think it’s just outrageous in my opinion. I think...I don’t know who else made the team but... four people from one team. You’ve got guys complaining about getting snubbed until they get in. Guys are talking about it all the time but the guys that deserve it should be in it.

Lillard is averaging 25.2 points, 6.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals on 43.6% shooting from the field, 36.4% from the arc this season for the 25-22 Trail Blazers. George averages 20.8 points, 3.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 steals on 43.6% shooting, 42.9% from the arc for the 27-20 Thunder.

Westbrook was named an All-Star reserve for 2018 along with Lillard.
