The Portland Trail Blazers facing the Denver Nuggets in the 47th game of their 2017-18 campaign would normally be a routine event, indistinguishable from any other mid-season contest against a middling opponent. For Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic, the game will take on special significance. This will be the first time he’s returned to Denver since he was traded in February of 2017. The Blazers and Nuggets have crossed paths three times since then, but all have been in Portland.
Mike Richman of The Oregonian questioned Nurkic about Monday’s game and got a surprisingly spirited response.
“Yeah, that’s a game I looked forward to definitely,” the Portland Trail Blazers center said on Saturday, following a home win over the Dallas Mavericks. “It’s a regular game here, but over there (it’s) not. So, definitely super excited for Monday, looking for another win definitely.”
As Richman details, Nurkic has excelled against his former team, averaging 20 points per game. He also points out that an over-amped Nurkic can sometimes be a mixed blessing. The article is well worth a read.
