The second round of fan voting returns are in for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game and Damian Lillard has lost ground to Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball. One week ago, Lillard had the seventh-most votes among Western Conference guards (148,622) while Ball had the eighth-most (120,817). Today, Lillard trails Ball by almost 30,000 votes.

Ball, drafted No. 2 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft has improved his play since entering the league, but still struggles to shoot (FG%: 34.9) while his team struggles to win (13-27). Lillard, on the other hand, is once again among the league’s top-10 scorers as the Portland Trail Blazers occupy the middle of the Western Conference playoff pack.
As always, the fan vote has little to do with performance. Comparing statistics, record, accolades, etc, is a moot point. Ball was always going to get more votes than he should and Lillard was always going to get fewer votes than he should, based on market. That’s how it works.
Fortunately, how it works overall has seen reform in the last year, with the fan vote no longer the only determinate of All-Star starters. Player votes and media votes count for 25 percent of the voting apiece, which may reshuffle the order of things a bit. That said, neither Lillard nor Ball is in real danger of being named to the starting lineup anyway.
If you would like to prove that sentiment wrong or simply show your support, you can vote using the following methods, outlined on NBA.com:
