The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Monday afternoon point guard Isaiah Thomas will return to action Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Thomas was recovering from a hip injury up to this point, with his timeline speeding ahead of a mid-February return like some projected. The former Washington product came to Cleveland this summer from the Boston Celtics in the Kyrie Irving trade.
With Boston last season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists en route to his second All-Star selection (both with the Celtics).
The point guard will greet the Blazers on the second of a back-to-back as they play the Chicago Bulls Monday evening. In two games against the Blazers last year, he had outings of 41 and 34 points. Although this time he’ll be under a minute restriction.
