Amidst Trade Rumors, Carmelo Anthony Advocates Puerto Rico Disaster Relief

While rumors of his intentions blow across the Twittersphere, Carmelo Anthony remains grounded in reality and thinks of others who face more serious problems.

In the wake of hurricanes Irma and Jose, Puerto Rico is facing the possibility of months without electricity, and an uphill battle to provide food and shelter to victims of the storm. Carmelo released a video on the Players Tribune, talking of his connection to Puerto Rico and asking for help in sending relief funds:

For those who may know, or who may not know, kinda my history and my heritage... my dad is Puerto Rican. His family members are all on the island. I just want people to kinda understand that and really feel where I am coming from. When you read the headline that says, "Puerto Rico is powerless." You know, without power there's no food, without food you have people being hungry. When people get hungry, crime rates go up. Think about the kids. How are they eating? Where are they sleeping?

Carmelo's article follows a similar plea for hurricane relief from Tim Duncan in which the Big Fundamental takes an uncharacteristic step into the spotlight to advocate for the Virgin Islands, where he grew up.
