On Friday evening, Nike and the NBA unveiled their new “Statement” edition jerseys for the upcoming 2017-18 NBA season. The Golden State Warriors’ design features a familiar Oakland landmark—the Jack London Oak, located in Frank Ogawa Plaza at the corner of 14th and Broadway. The tree is depicted on the city’s “Welcome to Oakland” sign and, as Nick DePaula of ESPN points out, it is the same design Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has tattooed on his chest.

Lillard’s tattoo features the Jack London Oak rooted in a heart, and reads “Oakland Heart of the City.” He got the ink after his first NBA season, honoring his birthplace. Now the Warriors, too, will wear the tree on their chests to honor Oakland when playing in their new alternate jerseys.
