Former Portland Trail Blazer broadcaster Mike Rice joined Bobby Corser’s podcast The Corser Cast as a special guest on Monday. Rice spent 25 years broadcasting for the Blazers until he was terminated last summer. You can listen to the podcast at SoundCloud.

Rice talked with Corser about the future of the Blazers organization. Corser asked him if he thought the backcourt of CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard had the potential to win a NBA Championship.

“Not the way they stand right now,” Rice said. “If you look at it, they’re a backcourt that is going to get better. They’re going to improve. They could be the best backcourt in the NBA, even better than the Warriors. There is so much room for improvement because they work hard, those two.”

Rice talked about how important it will be for the Blazers to get started on the right track this season. He thinks that if the Blazers are playing well earlier in the season, then they might make some moves to compete. But he also states that if they don’t get off to a good start, they could be stuck in the middle like a team like the Clippers.

He then spoke about being let go from the network and had a message for Blazers fans.

“They’ve always been good to the Blazers,” Rice said. “That’s why it was hard to not see it through with Dame and CJ.”
