Today Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard spent time interacting with fans on Twitter. He answered several questions candidly, including this one:
@Dame_Lillard if you had the opportunity to sign with any team in the league today other than trailblazers what team would it be?— Frenchie ❄️ (@Mohamed_2_0_6) June 14, 2017
Many star athletes would ignore or avoid a question like that, but Dame went ahead and responded with a couple of options:
If blazers said they didn't want me... Utah Jazz or Lakers https://t.co/jep3V9qRsS— Damian Lillard (@Dame_Lillard) June 14, 2017
His answer is surprising for its candor and because he included Utah. Players often show interest in playing in Los Angeles, but Salt Lake City isn’t typically a top NBA destination. Lillard, however, spent four years in Ogden, Utah at Weber State (about 45 minutes from Salt Lake City) and has spoken well of his time there. After his rookie year he was awarded a key to the city of Ogden.
Dame’s answer shouldn’t alarm Blazer fans. He qualified it by saying that was if Portland didn’t want him, and he’s expressed a desire to stay with the Blazers before. Portland obviously wants him too; he’s signed through the 2021 season.
Lillard also admitted that he’s not expecting to make the All-Star team next season although he expects to produce like an All-Star:
Prob not ... production wise I will doe https://t.co/5YvRkluLCg— Damian Lillard (@Dame_Lillard) June 14, 2017
Like CJ McCollum last month, he said he’d like to see Paul George come to Portland:
Dame also mention he was working on a new album, but if you are worried he might give up his NBA career to pursue rap full time, you can rest easy:
