Thursday evening on ESPN’s NBA Countdown, Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum sat in with Michele Beadle, Jalen Rose, and Chauncey Billups to discuss the second round of the NBA Playoffs. In the opening minutes, McCollum addressed the recent level of play of his former teammate LaMarcus Aldridge, now with the San Antonio Spurs.
“However one of my ex teammates, LaMarcus Aldridge, I think this is when he steps up, this is when he has to play his game, he has to play like he did in Portland, but that also comes with touches. Getting that comfort level up and allowing him to play his game and take some bad shots because he has the ability to make them.”
Through the first two games of the Western Conference semifinals Aldridge has scored a combined 19 points on 8-for-22 from the floor. While the series is now tied 1-1 with the Houston Rockets, Aldridge has been feeling the heat for sub-par performance in this year’s playoffs where he’s averaging 13.5 points on 43 percent shooting and 7.4 rebounds in just under 35 minutes per game.
Aldridge will have another opportunity to rise to the post-season occasion tonight at 6:30 p.m., as the Spurs and Rockets tip off Game 3.
