ESPN released their annual World Fame 100 2017, their list of the 100 most famous athletes on the planet. And one Portland Trail Blazer made the cut: Damian Lillard reached No. 61 on the list. However, it’s not all good news; the Oakland native fell from his No. 45 position in last year’s rankings.
A year after the media trumpeted their scrappy play and surprise second-round appearance, Lillard’s Blazers needed a late-season run to reach the eighth seed of the 2017 Playoffs, where they were swept (along with the Jazz and Spurs) by the Western Conference Champion Golden State Warriors.
Over the past year, the Blazers’ point guard success has not been limited to the basketball court. Last summer he released his first album, “The Letter O”, under the Dame D.O.L.L.A. pseudonym. It featured guest appearance from Lil Wayne, Jamie Fox and Juvenile.
ESPN’s ranking system reviews endorsements, as well as Instagram Facebook, and Twitter followers. Lillard has over $10 million in endorsements, 3.3 million Instagram followers, 2.7 million Facebook followers and 1.2 million Twitter followers.
