Fresh off a fun stomping of the Houston Rockets, the Portland Trail Blazers got leveled the next day with the news of Jusuf Nurkic’s injury. But they’re back in action anyway, tipping off against the Phoenix Suns tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Suns are shutting down for the season, but it didn’t stop Devin Booker from scoring an insane seventy points against the Boston Celtics recently.

Injuries: Ed Davis and Festus Ezeli are done. Nurkic is out at least two weeks. While NBA teams never use the term “tanking”, the Suns are done for the season. The list of resting players will be added closer to game time.

It’s a long season, Nurkic has gone down to injury and I just don’t feel like using the Phoenix theme tonight. So here is some old-school OMD. To most of the US, they were “one-hit wonders”. To the rest of the world, they were a near-revolutionary force in electronic music. The list of bands they influenced is scarily long. No, seriously, check out their Wikipedia page.

Everyone alive in that era knows their prom-night classic, If You Leave.

However, prior to that, they rose to international prominence with songs like Souvenir.

Their single So In Love unexpectedly performed poorly on the charts.

But the only single off their first greatest hits album, Dreaming, was a surprise hit.

Right as the band was reaching their largest audience (featuring an opening appearance at the legendary Depeche Mode concert at the Rose Bowl), they went through an acrimonious break-up. After over a decade of separation, OMD reunited in the late ‘00s, and have made two well-received albums, with another one on the way this year. But those albums will probably be a subject of a future gameday thread. Or junk drawer.
