CSN Northwest, a major carrier of Portland Trail Blazers broadcasts, has announced a change in the way Blazers content will be delivered. According to a press release dated today, Trail Blazers games will now be accessible via streaming on mobile devices. This will also be true of CSN pre- and post-game shows Rip City Live and Talkin’ Ball.
The press release states:
CSN’s live Blazers games and related coverage will be available to authenticated CSN subscribers on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices anywhere in the United States. The new service supports NBCUniversal’s “TV Everywhere” initiative, which gives consumers additional value and makes high-quality content available to authenticated customers both in and out of the home, and on multiple platforms. Powered by Playmaker Media, the NBC Sports app is available on Apple iOS, Android, and select Samsung devices.
“We’re excited to deliver Blazers fans and CSN viewers the opportunity to enjoy their team on any device they want, wherever they want, starting with this playoff push,” said Larry Eldridge, Vice President/General Manager of CSN Northwest. “From live games to pre and postgame programming, fans can now enjoy Blazers coverage in whichever way is convenient to them, and this new offering reflects CSN’s desire and commitment to connect fans with the teams and programming that we’re all passionate about.”
“The Trail Blazers regular season and playoff push has come down to some very important games,” said Chris McGowan, President and CEO of the Trail Blazers. “We’re pleased that our partners at CSN Northwest are making it easier for fans who are CSN subscribers to access game broadcasts using even more devices.”
CSNNW’s FAQ page indicates that games can be watched anywhere in the continental U.S. outside of the home region, except where territorial blackout restrictions apply.
Q: Can I stream NBA/NHL games while I’m out of town?
A: Yes. You will be permitted to access NBA and NHL content on PCs as well as on the NBC Sports app when traveling out of your home market, provided you are in the continental U.S.
Q: Why am I blacked out of my MLB/NBA/NHL game via TV Everywhere?
A: Just as with televised MLB/NBA/NHL games on NBC Sports Regional Networks, availability of games via TV Everywhere is subject to territorial blackout restrictions.
The NBC Sports App is available for Windows 10, Android and IOS, among others, and offers the ability to connect to a number of local cable providers. Despite being listed, Blazer’s Edge has not directly tested each service to confirm they work. Here is a partial list:
Comcast Xfinity
