The Portland Trail Blazers didn’t give the gift of extra minutes to Caleb Swanigan on Christmas Eve—rather, they sent him down to the G-League. The Purdue product came out of college as an All-American, and looked the part in Summer League, but he’s been passed up in the rotation by fellow rookie Zach Collins. Thursday night he’s set to make his G-League debut with the Canton Charge.

Here’s some basic game info:

Windy City Bulls (7-11) at Canton Charge (8-10)

Notable Charge players: Caleb Swanigan, Kendrick Perkins, Marcus Thornton
Notable Bulls players: Duje Dukan, Ryan Arcidiacono, Diamond Stone

Head coach Terry Stotts initially said the rookie bigs would switch off the inactive designation once the team got fully healthy, but it’s Swanigan who’s often been dressed in street clothes behind the bench.

The forward made three starts for Portland this season in 15 games. He averaged just 8.9 minutes per game, producing 2.6 points and 2.4 rebounds a night. To contrast, in Summer League he registered 30.9 minutes per game and averaged 16.1 points along with 10.6 rebounds a night.

The forward got a chance to practice with the Charge Wednesday night, so signs point to him suiting up Thursday.
