Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward suffered a severe leg injury six minutes into the first quarter of his Boston Celtics debut against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hayward landed awkwardly under the basket on an alley-oop attempt, collapsing immediately. He was taken off the court on a stretcher. Videos of the incident are making the rounds on social media. Cavaliers team captain LeBron James went to visit Hayward soon after, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com.

The official pronouncement came soon after.

The Celtics signed Hayward this summer. He spent his first seven seasons with the Utah Jazz. Hayward averaged 21.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season.
