Robin Lopez hasn’t been with the Portland Trail Blazers since 2015 but he’s still fondly remembers in the Rose City for his hard play and quirky attitude. Spencer Davies of 16winsaring.com sat down for a chat with Lopez after a recent Chicago Bulls practice session. The center sounded optimistic about his former team’s chances:
I know there are a lot of good guys, lot of great players in that locker room, coaches. It’s a great situation.
They started off slowly last year, so there’s no reason they won’t go on a tear again this year. It’s a lot of the same personnel.
Lopez also weighed in on George Karl’s comments regarding star point guard Damian Lillard and the ensuing response from Head Coach Terry Stotts.
I think that was an interesting situation. Obviously he knows coach Terry [Stotts]. He knows Terry a lot better than he knows Dame, so I think he’s just obviously assuming a lot. I played with Dame a lot, and I loved playing with Dame.
No Robin Lopez interview would be complete without pop culture references, and Davies went for the Big One, asking Lopez about his reaction to Star Wars Rogue One. Lopez’s response was surprising:
Actually I haven’t gotten the chance to see it yet. For me, I feel like I’m in the early stages of Star Wars fatiguing a little bit. I mean, a movie every year. That’s quite a bit isn’t it?
I was definitely a little put off after Force Awakens because everything was so similar, to the original trilogies especially.
Sound like Lopez may not be a big fan of the Disney incarnation of the franchise? Stay tuned to discover whether Supreme Leader Snoke ends up 7 feet tall with Sideshow Bob hair beating up on mascots.
