The Portland Trail Blazers were rumored to have offered Gasol a two-year, $40 million contract. Gasol's deal with San Antonio will be for considerably less money than he could have made in Portland, according to ESPN's Marc Stein:

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors were also interested in his services.
The 36-year-old Gasol averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game in yet another all-star year last season. With news breaking earlier today that Spurs forward/center Tim Duncan is leaning toward retirement, it is likely that he will take over at the starting center slot and play alongside former Blazer LaMarcus Aldridge.
