Newly re-signed Trail Blazers guard Allen Crabbe was in attendance to support his team in their Las Vegas Summer League matchup with the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. At halftime, Blazer's Edge caught up with him to discuss his feelings about the massive contract he inked earlier in the day. Needless to say, he was all smiles.
David MacKay: "What was your first reaction when you heard that they matched?"
Allen Crabbe: "I was excited. Just moving back-- not moving back home-- but I'll look for a new house in Portland and I think it's going to be fun. I enjoy Portland, I've grown to love it and, you know, why not continue my career here?"
DM: When I spoke with you in preseason a couple years ago, you talked about doing two-a-day, three-a-day workouts and trying to crack rotation. How does it feel now to see all of that pay off?
AC: "It just shows that hard work really does go a long way. Just the journey that I had to go through, not playing my first year. The second year, in the rotation, out of rotation. Third year we had all the roster changes, so just really me putting in that work and having a big summer. It's definitely been great, man. There's really not many words that you could say to explain how it really feels. It's just a great feeling."
Crabbe understands that there are expectations that come with his price tag, and although he would prefer to start, he is willing to fill the role the Blazers need him to moving forward; whatever that may be. They have the next four years to figure that out.
