International basketball reporter David Pick indicates that Scotty Hopson of Foshan Long Lions (Chinese Basketball Association) has committed to join the Portland Trail Blazers’ summer league roster.

The 26-year-old, 6’7" swingman went undrafted out of Tennessee in 2011, before being signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers in March of 2014. He played a total of seven minutes with them prior to assuming the unfortunate role of "trade package filler" during the following off-season, when he was shipped to the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets, and finally the Sacramento Kings, who waived him in training camp.

Hopson played overseas during the 2015-16 season, but may have a chance to return to the NBA if he proves himself useful as a lengthy guard. His wingspan measured 6’10.5" at the 2011 draft combine, and he was a strong shooter in college, averaging 17.0 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting in his third year. Perhaps time spent developing his game in China has been enough for an NBA team to give him another look.
