Tibbetts was linked to Memphis as early as May 7, when Zach Lowe tweeted that the Grizzlies were casting a "wide net" and Tibbetts was a candidate for the position. He subsequently interviewed with the team last week.
Tibbetts has been a sought after candidate for a number of coaching positions this offseason. Aside from the Grizzlies, Tibbetts was also recently linked to the head assistant coaching job with the Golden State Warriors.
Fizdale was an assistant in Miami since 2008. He previously worked in both Golden State and Atlanta prior to his nearly 10-year stint with the Heat. If he accepts, this will be his first head coaching job in his career, which spans both college and the NBA.
