NBA.com Sees Neil Olshey As Executive of the Year

Steve Aschburner of NBA.com picked Blazers General Manager Neil Olshey for his choice of Executive of the Year.

As the season rolls down, the accolades for a hard-fought campaign start to flood in. NBA.com writer Steve Aschburner made their site's pick for NBA Executive of the Year, selecting Neil Olshey of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Aschburner credits Olshey for not tanking for a high draft pick, despite sitting on approximately $40 million in cap space and trading commodities like Nicolas Batum and Steve Blake for projects like Noah Vonleh and Pat Connaughton.

Olshey did manage to use Portland's cap space to acquire a 2018 first-round pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Aschburner does credit coach Terry Stotts for integrating the pieces Olshey acquired at bargain prices.

"(Damian Lillard and backcourt sidekick C.J. McCollum have provided much of the Blazers' scoring, but the other parts -- with no small effort from Coach of the Year candidate Terry Stotts and his staff -- have come together nicely -- and ahead of schedule."

Olshey has been the general manager of the Trail Blazers since June of 2012, and finished third last year in the Executive of the Year voting.
