Trail Blazers Assign Montero, Alexander to D-League

After a combined 54 minutes of court time all season, a pair of Blazers rookies will get some run.

The Portland Trail Blazers have announced that rookies Luis Monetero and Cliff Alexander have been assigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League.

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 10, 2016) - The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned rookie forward Cliff Alexander and rookie guard Luis Montero to the NBA Development League's Santa Cruz Warriors, pursuant to the flexible assignment rule, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

Alexander, 20, is averaging 1.4 points (5-10 FG), 0.9 rebounds and 4.5 minutes in seven games this season. He signed with Portland as an undrafted free agent on July 24, after spending one collegiate season at the University of Kansas in 2014-15.

A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Montero is producing 1.9 points (38.5% FG, 20.0% 3-PT, 100.0% FT), 0.3 rebounds, 0.1 assists and 3.3 minutes in seven contests. He was signed on July 9 and competed on Portland's 2015 NBA Summer League roster.

Alexander and Montero will be available for Santa Cruz on Saturday, March 12, when the team hosts the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific).

Alexander and Montero have combined for 54 minutes of total floor time for the Blazers this season.
