ESPN Senior Writer Zach Lowe, releases his Fifth Annual Luke Walton All-Stars, and gives a nod to an unsung Blazer, growing in the hearts of the fans: Ed Davis.
This isn't a list based on fan votes, Justin Bieber bumps, hashtags, or Twitter mobs. No, this a "fan's fan" type of list, where the guys who get the least amount of credit from the talking heads are singled out for their nightly, selfless contributions to bettering their team. A host of former Trail Blazers have gone on to be named to this illustrious team over the years. With the likes of Martell Webster, Josh McRoberts, Jerryd Bayless, and Travis Outlaw, it's easy to see why the Blazers teams of the late aughts and early teens—outside of the obvious potential laden squads consisting of Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden—were so easy to cheer for.
As for Davis, Lowe heaped a scoop of praise his way, while also not so subtly pointing out that there are more than a few GMs who aren't particularly great at their job.
Before he signed a nice long-term deal in Portland, it seemed like Davis was doomed to wander the NBA landscape, shoot 60 percent, pluck offensive rebounds, provide some rim protection, be "too skinny," and wait for someone to figure out he was pretty damn good.
Lowe pretty much sings the glory and praises of Davis throughout. Clearly, Lowe is taking the anti-soccer mom approach here, or he just really loves Davis. Either way, it's a great nod to one of the guys who puts in the "yeoman's work" on a nightly basis. You can read all about it, here.
