The Portland Trail Blazers continue their three-game road trip in Dallas, taking on the Mavericks tonight (Preview). Let’s see how well they bounce back from Wednesday’s brutal overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns.
The Mavs haven’t won yet this season, and are surely itching to pick up that first win. Former Blazer Wesley Matthews made a strong statement about the importance of tonight’s game. Of course, the Blazers don’t want to fall under .500, either. Moe Harkless and Damian Lillard made statements about the importance of improving their play, including Lillard’s put-up-or-shut-up post-game remark. Let the battle commence.
The Mavs are besieged by injuries. Dirk Nowitzki is questionable due to Achilles issues. Deron Williams was listed as question, but is expected to play tonight according to the Blazers’ Casey Holdahl. Dallas’ Andrew Bogut is a late scratch due to personal reasons, according to CSN NW’s Jason Quick.
Meanwhile, since the Blazers are in Dallas, how about a quick moment about the late Stevie Ray Vaughan? The Dallas native was extremely successful, but never actually crossed over into mainstream pop chart success. Some would say that was a victory in itself. But did you know that he played on a few extremely well-known hits in the 80s? He did guitar work in a very underrated song from a legend we lost this year: David Bowie.
