McCollum is averaging 26.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.4 assists while starting point guard Damian Lillard has been out with injury. Defensively he has added 1.2 steals per game. The Nuggets have also surrendered huge numbers to opposing guards all season - that is not likely to change given the number of injuries the team is currently playing through.
Even if Lillard does play tonight McCollum remains an appealing choice. Damian will likely draw the bulk of Denver's attention on defense, and may need a game or two to work himself back into shape. That leaves the door open for C.J. to pick up huge numbers, even if he goes back to being the team's second option.
