CJ McCollum To Mentor Local High School Journalists

McCollum offers kids the rare opportunity to get behind-the-scenes experience on the media side of the NBA.

In the midst of a breakout season that is garnering plenty of national attention for CJ McCollum, the third-year shooting guard is teaming with Madison High School's Journalism Club to launch CJ's Press Pass. McCollum will mentor students and give them a chance to gain experience as media members on the NBA stage.

Statement from McCollum via a press release from the Blazers posted on CSNNW:

"CJ's Press Pass is designed to help local students get real-time experience in journalism and expose them to the many different aspects of the field," said McCollum. "I have been blessed to be able to use my position as an NBA player to explore my passion in sports writing and broadcasting, and I am excited to share my experiences with the Madison High School Journalism Club."

McCollum will host a Journalism Night on January 31 against Minnesota, where students will have the chance to gain access to the media side of a typical NBA game. The night will also include a Q&A with several of the Blazers' media and communications staff, as well as a chance for the students to produce their own recap of the night's events. The student with the best recap will co-host McCollum's Friday night radio show, "The Playlist", on Portland's JAM'N 107.5.

A Lehigh graduate with a degree in journalism, McCollum has continually involved himself in the media side of the NBA. He has voiced his desire to continue working as a member of the media after his playing career.
