Aminu is a 6'9", 215 lb, 24-year old small forward with 5 NBA seasons under his belt. He's played for the Clippers, Pelicans, and most recently for the Dallas Mavericks. He holds career averages of 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. His best season came for New Orleans in 2012-13 and 2013-14 when he averaged 7 points and 8 rebounds per game on 47% shooting. He's a 28.6% career three-point shooter.
Aminu has leaned on defense throughout his career. Of late he's tried to slip into the 3-D mold but he struggles with the "3" aspect. He's always been more comfortable scoring at the rim that on the perimeter. Last year for Dallas 75% of his shot attempts came either within 3 feet of the hoop or beyond the three-point arc. He's strong on the glass and in transition. He'd certainly fulfill the "more athletic" criterion that typifies Portland's recent acquisitions.
He was the 8th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
Aminu will be slated to fill part of the void left behind by the Trail Blazers' recent trade of Nicolas Batum to the Charlotte Hornets.
Update: Aminu tweets this:
Headed to Portland with my guy Neil Olshey, who believed in me since day one. Much love Rip city here I come
