Jason Quick of The Oregonian is reporting that the Portland Trail Blazers are "likely" to pick up the second year of Chris Kaman's contract option,
The Trail Blazers on Tuesday will "likely" exercise their option on center Chris Kaman, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The Blazers will wait until the 2 p.m. deadline to make the final decision in order to maintain flexibility for a possible trade.
Kaman signed for $4.8 million last season with a second, non-guaranteed year to follow. If the Blazers retain him they'll owe $5 million to the 33-year-old center. If they choose not to pick up the option he's due $1 million and will be free to sign elsewhere. Either way the applicable amount will count against Portland's salary cap in 2015-16.
Kaman averaged 8.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game over 74 appearances for the Blazers last year.
