The Portland Trail Blazers stated in a press release Portland Trail Blazer Wesley Matthews will take part in the 3 pt. shoot out contest during the NBA All-Star weekend.
Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews has been selected to compete in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest on Saturday, February 14, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the NBA announced today.
Matthews becomes the sixth Trail Blazer in franchise history to compete in the Three-Point Contest, joining Kiki Vandeweghe (1987), Clyde Drexler (1991), Terry Porter (1991, 1993), Cliff Robinson (1996) and Damian Lillard (2014). No Portland player has ever won the event.
Through 49 games this season, Matthews leads the NBA in three-point field goals (151) and attempts (375).
Matthews has connected on 804 three-pointers in his four-plus seasons as a member of the Trail Blazers. On January 17, he surpassed Terry Porter for most three-pointers made in franchise history (773).
Earlier this season (Nov. 26-30), Matthews became the first player in Trail Blazers history and the fourth player in NBA history to make six-plus three-pointers in three consecutive games. Matthews also leads the league with 11 games of five or more three-point field goals.
Along with Matthews, San Antonio's Marco Belinelli, Houston's James Harden, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, Atlanta's Kyle Korver, the L.A. Clippers' J.J. Redick, and Golden State's Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson round out the competition.
The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest is scheduled as the third of four events at State Farm All-Star Saturday night, which is set to air live on TNT at 5:30 p.m. (Pacific).
All I can say is, "Bout time."
