With the Trail Blazers set to face the New York Knicks tonight at the Moda Center, Portland fans will get to welcome back former Blazer Robin Lopez, who signed with the visiting team in free agency last offseason.
Lopez spoke with Blazers Beat Writer Casey Holdahl about his return, saying that he will be used to the often hostile Blazers home crowd.
"I’m kind of accustomed to that. I cut of an imposing figure, pretty recognizable, pretty noticeable with the hair. So, I’m usually kind of a flash point for attention from the crowd."
He remembers the crowd in Portland always being super excited, even in exhibition games, and that the New York crowd can be similar. He told Holdahl.
"I mean, the fanbase here has been great, they’ve been super supportive of everything I’ve done, even in New York. So I’m excited to come back and see them."
He also spoke of shopping in his return, as well as the status of his pet cat, Edward.
The entire interview can be heard here.
Lopez played two seasons in Portland, averaging 10.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He was acquired in July of 2013 in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. In March of 2014, he was honored with the Maurice Lucas Award for his efforts in his "Read Big" literacy campaign with Portland Public Schools.
