Matt Moore Ranks Terry Stotts' Chances at Coach of the Year Minuscule

One CBS Sports writer thinks Stotts' chances rank lower than almost anybody.

Craig Mitchelldyer-USA TODAY Sports

CBS Sports author Matt Moore has published his annual list ranking coaches in order of suitability for the NBA's Coach of the Year award.

Moore's 1st-3rd rankings are David Blatt from Cleveland, Gregg Popovich from San Antonio, and Doc Rivers with the L.A. Clippers. Of greater interest to Portland Trail Blazers fans...Moore ranks Blazers coach Terry Stotts not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6...but 29th overall. He doesn't attribute it to Stotts' coaching abilities, but to the circumstances:

Stotts is a great coach. This roster is a hazmat zone. If they sniff the playoffs, I'm ready to give it to him.

Even with the sop to Stotts' talent, 29th still hurts. Especially when the 30th and last position looks like this:

30. Sam Mitchell, Minnesota Timberwolves: Young teams don't win in this league. Young teams under Sam Mitchell really don't win in this league.

Wow.
