Blazer's Edge has openings in 2-3 entry-level positions writing Instant Recaps following Portland Trail Blazers games. This is your chance to join one of the most dynamic and knowledgeable groups in the basketball blogosphere and to give back to the community and sport that you enjoy.
Instant Recap writers will work with our Game Day staff to provide an immediate recounting of the game when the final horn sounds. The position requires:
--concise writing skills
--professional writing tone
--ability to type and post quickly
--access to Trail Blazers broadcasts
--familiarity with the sport and the Blazers in particular
--ability to parse information, lifting out key points of the game discarding chaff
--willingness to watch entire games carefully and record observations while doing so
--familiarity with social media, particularly Twitter
--willingness to communicate and schedule with other staff members, working as part of a team
Time commitment for a given game does not last much longer than the game itself, but Instant Recap writers would need to commit to covering 25+ games during the season.
Basically this is one of the avenues into the site open to dedicated writers/readers as well as people with journalism experience. Dedication/reliability, a passion for the sport, and ability to meet the writing demands are what we're looking for. The position is entry level and volunteer, with opportunities for advancement.
If you'd like to be considered, e-mail a bio and links to any relevant writing samples to blazersub@gmail.com by Monday, October 26th.
