Final: Grizzlies Torch the Blazers, 109-99

The Portland Trail Blazers never showed up on defense, and the Memphis Grizzlies made them pay with a relatively easy victory Tuesday night.

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

The Blazers were led by Damian Lillard's 32 points and 7 assists. It was a rough night for most of the team, especially LaMarcus Aldridge, who looked out of sorts all night long.

Box Score

First Half: The two teams played each other evenly early, but the first tipping point was Lopez's second foul while guarding Marc Gasol. Thomas Robinson took his place, with a level of success, but also piled up the fouls. By halftime, both players had 3 apiece, and Mo Williams had headed to the locker room with a hip injury. As you'd expect in that situation, Memphis took control, shooing over 60% in the first half, helped by the Blazers' poor transition defense, and jumped ahead by 12 points. A late Blazer run kept the game close.

Memphis 54, Portland 47

You cant let Memphis shoot 60% from the floor with the way they play defense.

Third Quarter: More of the same, as the Blazers gave the Grizzlies easy buckets, while Portland struggled for every point they could find. Open shot after open shot, and soon the Blazers were down 15. With Williams done for the night and Aldridge clearly struggling (missing open jumpers), the defense needed to hold, and instead Memphis carved it up repeatedly with ease. They finally missed a few shots late, and Lillard helped Portland pull within single digits.

Memphis 78, Portland 69

On the bright side, the Blazers have now built four house foundations.

Fourth Quarter: The Grizz opened the fourth with a three-pointer, Portland missed their first four shots, and things went downhill from there. Another rough night for the Blazers, so let's call it a night here too.

What's Next:

The Blazers head to San Antonio tonight, and play the Spurs tomorrow on ESPN. Later tonight, stay tuned for Dave's analysis of today's game.
