Reports: Blazers UFA G Nolan Smith Out For Orlando Summer League After Leg Injury

Portland Trail Blazers unrestricted free agent guard Nolan Smith will reportedly miss the rest of the Orlando Summer League after suffering a leg injury in his debut for the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com reports on Twitter that Smith suffered the leg injury in Boston's 95-88 loss to the Orlando Magic. Smith finished with four points (on two-for-three shooting) and one steal in 5 minutes of action.

Nolan Smith added that his injury is not related to his Achilles Tendon, which is a positive in all this.

Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports on Twitter that Smith will undergo an MRI.

Source says Nolan Smith is probably out for the rest of summer league, but he's still likely to be invited to Celtics' training camp.

Smith, 24, averaged 2.8 points, 0.9 assists and 0.7 rebounds in 7.2 minutes per game in 40 appearances this season. He posted a PER of 7.1.

The Blazers opted not to pick up his third-year rookie option last fall. Smith is one of a number of 2012-13 Blazers that has yet to reach agreement on a deal for next year.

One reporter thought Smith, a 2011 first-round pick, might have a chance to re-sign with the Blazers last week; Portland instead reportedly agreed to sign unrestricted free agent point guard Earl Watson on Sunday.

Smith was hospitalized briefly after suffering a concussion during a 2012 Las Vegas Summer League game.
