J.E. Skeets and The Basketball Jones crew offered some thoughts on NBA mascots after the Chicago Bulls' Benny The Bull was ranked America's favorite mascot in a recent list compiled by Tom Van Riper of Forbes.com. Audio of the podcast can be found right here.
Skeets suggested that Portland Trail Blazers mascot Blaze The Trail Cat is among the worst mascots in the NBA.
J.E. Skeets: "Let's [expletive] on some mascots now. Who are the worst mascots in the NBA? Who do you dislike for their look or because they don't do [expletive] all? ... I'm almost worried to do this because I'm sure we're going to get tons of comments. '[Expletive] you, Skeets.' I don't like the Blazers' guy. I don't know if the Blazers fans like the Blazers mascot. I think his name is Blaze. It's like a cat, I think."
Trey Kerby: "It's a cat that kind of looks like a coyote."
J.E. Skeets: "It's got a weird look to it. I've never seen it do anything. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just like a cat."
Trey Kerby: "Maybe that's why Blazers fans like Luke Babbitt so much. 'Our mascot sucks so we can cheer for this guy.'"
J.E. Skeets: "I don't like Blaze. Maybe they don't either. Sorry Portland."
Mascots for the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics were also included in the discussion of the worst mascots.
Blaze joined Twitter earlier this month. The Blazers recently surveyed fans for their thoughts on Blaze, among other in-arena experience topics.
